I have been able to examine a new guide for building your own chicken coop.  This is ChickenDIYguides, which has impressed me with its extensive information about rearing and keeping hens in addition to its excellent hen house plans and building guide.

The emphasis is on ease of construction, with comprehensive step-by-step instructions and many schematics and diagrams to make things even clearer.  There is also access to a huge video library, covering just about anything to do with chickens and how to look after them properly

The plans are easily adaptable to fit your own design requirements (such as number of chickens to be accommodated), and are intended to give you an attractive hen house with easy egg collection and cleaning systems built in.

The building method employs clever design and simple construction techniques, avoiding any complex technology and allowing the use of cheap and readily available materials.

It all seems to be well within the capabilities of even a novice carpenter, and only common hand tools are required.  Most people will have these already in their toolbox but, if not, nothing is very costly to buy.  In fact, the claim is that you can build your own chicken coop for about $100, and I see no reason to doubt this.

I liked the design for building the hen house above ground level, to give the chickens much better protection from predators and to avoid problems with rising damp.  It also includes plans for making a proper chicken run, also a necessity that many guides overlook.  This is a good product, and shows that the designers know what they are doing.

The kit includes a guide to the latest city ordnances, to help those urban-dwellers who are thinking about keeping hens.  This is becoming a very popular pastime so it is a good idea to include information about local regulations (many of which are being relaxed to meet demand).  And there are a number of other guides (I counted 4) which relate to various aspects of rearing and keeping poultry, such as incubators and breeds of hen.

The kit comes with a proper, no-nonsense 60-day guarantee, and I know from experience with other products from this source that the customer and technical support is first class.

Not very many chicken coop building guides currently on the market are as well planned and laid out as this one. In fact I believe that ChickenDIYguides is the best available at present, and is likely to remain so because of its good all round approach to hens and the environment they need, and its simple but effective plans and instructions.

This product is strongly recommended.
